Department of Mechanical Design

At Department of Mechanical Design research and teaching is carried out in the wide field of Mechanical Design. Research and teaching activities includes: mechanical design; CAD; 3D modeling; 3D scanning; 3D printing; experimental and numerical analyses; structural optimizations; design and testing of power transmission devices, transportation devices and other mechanical constructions; tribological analyses; preparation of technical documentation; use of softwares AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, Sense, Cura, Catman, EVIDAS, ProTOp etc.

Departmental Activity

Scientific research and teaching activities, at the Department of Mechanical Design, includes:

  • project development and consulting for technical documentation, with the focus on standardization, especially in the field of mechanical design,
  • product concept design, design calculations, dimensioning, giving shapes and choosing materials for parts and assemblies, design for manufacturing (for welded, casted and forging parts), experimental and numerical stress-deformation analysis of products, structural optimization (topology,  dimensional and shape optimization) of products, design of medical devices, etc.,
  • computer-aided design using software’s like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA and other integrated CAD/CAM/CAE software’s (2D drafting and sketching, 3D geometric parametric modelling of parts and assemblies, generation of technical documentation, modelling of complex surfaces, real time rendering, reverse engineering (RE), rapid prototyping (RP), stress-deformation analysis using finite element method (FEM), animation of components movement in space and time, simulation of stress conditions, structural optimization of parts and assemblies, etc.),
  • design and analysis of power transmission devices,
  • design of transportation devices,
  • tribology analysis in the field of mechanical design,
  • experimental stress analysis, measurements of: displacements, force, torque, rpm, vibrations, pressure and temperature using appropriate sensors,
  • numerical analysis in the field of mechanical design,
  • implementation, education and consulting about implementation of: CAD/CAM/CAE and new 3D technologies, testing of parts using strain gauges,
  • training: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, Catman, 3D scanning, 3D printing, application of strain gauges in product analysis, etc.
